History...
The Riverstone House is situated on almost 20 acres bordered on one side by a "mile-wide, foot-deep" river. The historic homestead is part of acreage that was originally owned by William Penn's grandson, John Penn, in the late 1700's. The original stone section of the now almost 3,300 square foot house was built in 1795.
I am told that the homestead has been everything from a working farm to a stage-coach stop and tavern over the years; it is rich in history and on the 31st of January 2008 I joined in that history when I took ownership of the property.
The homestead is currently part of the Clean and Green program and is protected nature conservancy land. The 8-acre north field is home to a paleolithic (10,000 BC) Native American site documented by the State.
The back 6 acres (on the other side of the historic Pennsylvania canal) are wooded and hold 2 large ponds which are home to a variety of waterfowl. I'm also told that the ruins of a 150-year old mill house is somewhere on the back 6.
